INTERVIEW WITH DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY, MIKE SPRAGG
Interview with Spirit Warriors amazing Director of Photography, Mike Spragg (plus a few behind the scenes, sneak peeks of the show). What the man can do with lights is truly wonderful. Our show wouldn't look like it does without Mike and his brilliant team, our fabulous art department and the genius of our vfx guys, all working under Retrojuice's banner. This is me with my online shout-out to this bunch of incredible talents. Plus they're nice too, a bonus in my book.

NEW SUPERNATURAL TV SERIES
Just started work on a BBC World Service Trust supernatural series filming in Bangladesh and having a fabulous time working with the guys getting the stories right, and tightening up the 20 something scripts! It's got my creative juices flowing and I'm even more determined to set up another series now, one for teens/adult audience maybe. Come on Brit TV powers-that-be, let us make more fun, supernatural shows! I've a ton of ideas burning a hole in my laptop...

Spirit Warriors
Drama
Inspired by ancient Chinese legend, Spirit Warriors, created by writer Jo Ho, is an adventure-packed series mixing live-action and martial-arts fantasy with digital technology and computer-generated characters.
A school trip to a museum ignites an epic quest for Bo (Jessica Henwick), her sister Jen (Alicia Lai) and fellow schoolchildren Vicky (Lil Simz), Trix (Gilles Geary) and Martin (Karl Rogers). Transported to a parallel Spirit World, where each possesses a special power, they meet Shen, a Chinese dragon, who guides them as they negotiate the realms of Wood, Water, Earth and Fire to seek out 12 Spirit Pieces before evil warlord Li (Benedict Wong) his henchman Hwang (Tom Wu) and their faceless Nian shadow warriors can capture them. There's just one problem – 21st-century kids don't have much experience of making conversation with an ancient dragon.
In a visual spectacle never before been seen on CBBC, the young heroes meet a mysterious new denizen of the Spirit World each week as they struggle to secure a new Spirit Piece against Hwang. If they succeed they will save the universe and Bo and Jen's ailing mother. If they fail, the Spirit World and the children’s own world will both fall under Li's terrible dominion.

AWARD "For outstanding achievement by a Chinese woman in the UK film and television industry"
Crikey, I've won an award! Can't believe I actually won! Yes, you are now reading the blog of one of the UK's Top Ten Outstanding Young Chinese Persons! For those of you who don't know, the criteria for these awards are:
- to give formal recognition to the Chinese young people who excel in professional endeavours and contribution to the British community;
- promoting prominent roles played by the aspiring Chinese young people in shaping a better future for British society; and
- to provide an incentive to all the promising Chinese young people who seek further advancement in personal achievement as well as in British public services.
The awards were presented at a very nice gala ceremony at Le Meridien, Piccadilly on saturday night and I was very proud of all the nominees and winners - fantastic to see the level of talent from us Chinese folk, here in the UK, especially as we seem to have so little voice and presence within the media in this country. I hope the organisers of the event continue to receive sponsorship and support to reward many more generations of talented young Chinese in the UK as amongst other things, this is a wonderful way to raise moral and hope among the Chinese community.

NOMINATION for an award!
I've been nominated for The Big Ben Awards, the first awards of it's kind in the UK to find 2009's Top Ten Outstanding Young Chinese People! Kinda chuffed actually, especially as I'm up against the likes of Vanessa Mae, Gok Wan and Wei Tang, all of whom are famous, and I'm not. Not holding out much hope but ma's happy with the nomination since she actually knows who the other nominees are!

BO AND THE SPIRIT WORLD IS GREENLIT AND ANNOUNCED!
After what has been a years wait for me, my TV series BO AND THE SPIRIT WORLD is finally greenlit and announced! A fantasy childrens drama for CBBC, 13 x 30" episodes based on Chinese myths and legends. We are scripting now with the shoot beginning in April 2009. I am incredibly proud and happy!
Head of CBBC Drama, and the series executive producer/director, Jon East says: "Bo And the Spirit World is another first for CBBC drama, a totally new kind of drama that poses some exciting technological and editorial challenges by virtue of its fantasy setting. We're hoping to deliver a series that, besides thrills and laughs, also possesses real heart and a fresh and contemporary feel, drawing from the rich heritage of Chinese culture."

Jo is currently scribbling away on her kick ass fantasy tv series, where she is having heaps of fun blowing things up, and creating monsters.
The series is being developed with CBBC and is scheduled for a Spring '09 shoot.
When she isn't doing this, she's thinking hard on her two other new TV series ideas or polishing her feature film scripts.
Previous to this, she had the rather more serious job of judging on the BBC Writersroom BBC BITES
scheme, a competition to find new writers from the British Chinese experience. " It was great to read work from such promising artists and on top of that, I got to eat cake."
